Early interceptive orthodontic care remains one of the most nuanced areas in clinical practice. Across different countries, training traditions, and practice environments, the same child may be
viewed through different clinical lenses, often leading to differing, yet equally professionally grounded, management recommendations. This presentation explores the evolving landscape of interceptive
care through a balanced, evidence-informed framework. It will highlight where early treatment is clearly justified, where it remains preference-sensitive, and revisit the fundamental principles that remain
timeless regardless of era, technology or geography. At its core, the aim is to support thoughtful clinical decision-making grounded in sound diagnosis, purposeful intervention, and an appreciation
for natural growth.

Dr Jocelin Wen
Dr Jocelin Wen is a Specialist Orthodontist practising in Melbourne’s South East. She brings a broad perspective to orthodontic care, shaped by diverse clinical experience across Australia and
internationally. She completed her postgraduate orthodontic training in London, where her research explored maxillary growth rotations and their influence on facial growth and development.
Jocelin has a long-standing appreciation for craniofacial growth and development, and for the principles of timely intervention or, where appropriate, non-intervention. She is particularly interested in the
early identification of developing malocclusions and the practical application of simple strategies that can be readily incorporated into everyday practice to support favourable growth trajectories.
Now back in private practice in Melbourne, Jocelin is grateful for the opportunity to work closely with fellow dentists and specialist colleagues, supporting timely, well-coordinated care and confident
long-term outcomes for the wider community.
