Sleep Disordered Breathing Screening in Children

Many children with sleep-disordered breathing remain undiagnosed- could dental visits change that?

Sleep-Disordered Breathing (SDB) affects up to 11% of children worldwide and is linked to growth, behavioural, and cardiovascular consequences. Despite this, it remains under-recognised and under-diagnosed. Dentists, who see children regularly, may be well positioned to support early identification through the use of screening tools.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

- recognise the key signs, symptoms, and consequences of paediatric sleep-disordered breathing
identify commonly used screening tools for children at risk of SDB
apply strategies to integrate SDB screening into routine dental practice
- understand referral pathways and effectively communicate with caregivers for children at risk.
