Attention, dentists providing treatment funded through WorkSafe Victoria…
The ADAVB recently met with representatives from WorkSafe Victoria (WSV), to find ways to collaborate with our members and ensure dentists’ involvement with the program is functioning smoothly and efficiently for all.
Issues raised by the WorkSafe Victoria team:
- The claims team report that they are often not receiving sufficient information from dentists regarding treatment requests, which is resulting in significant delays prior to approval. They said the best way to expedite approval of treatment plans is to provide all the requested information, from the outset, using WSV’s template documents.
- The dental services fee schedule’s examination item is described as DT011G.
- The “DT” prefix identifies the code as relating to ‘dental treatment’ and “G” denotes the classification of the provider (G for general dentist).
- The service description is “Initial Examination And Report”. The report being referred to is a downloadable and digitally editable PDF template, available here.
- The fee schedule does not include payment for 018 (“Written report – not elsewhere included”) because in this case the report IS included as part of the payment for an 011, and accordingly the amount the fee schedule covers for the 011 service includes an additional amount acknowledging the requirement of the report to be completed ($118.45 total for the provision of a comprehensive clinical examination and report).
- We heard from WSV that many dentists participating in the scheme simply provide a copy of a quote that’s been prepared for the patient, but that this is not considered sufficient by WSV as submission of a ‘treatment plan’, and this results in delays for approval, with agents often needing to contact providers to seek more information.
- They advised that the best way to expedite approval of treatment plans is to provide all the requested information, from the outset, using WSV’s preferred template documents.
