Find your next CPD course with the ADAVB
As you are all no doubt aware, we are now in the last year of the CPD triennium and the deadline for completing our training requirements is quickly approaching. As we take steps to make sure that our obligations are met by November, we are fortunate to have a wide range of high-quality courses available at ADAVB.
Beyond simply meeting the industry requirements set out by the Dental Board or viewing it as a box to be checked, CPD is an opportunity to invest in your professional growth and development, broaden your skills, improve patient outcomes and network with like-minded dental colleagues.
Explore some of the exciting courses that will be running over the coming months.
INTERACTIVE LECTURE
Mastering new patient exams for stress free dentistry
Friday 23 May 2025
This course is targeted at dental professionals who have recently graduated and are looking to develop some of the key practical and interpersonal skills needed when working independently in the field.
Covering the fundamentals of new patient examination, participants in this course will explore important communication strategies for rapport building with patients, note taking and discussing treatment options, among many other valuable skills.
Many new graduate clinicians find it difficult to engage in conversations with patients that touch on sensitive matters, such as the cost of treatment and proposal of complex treatment plans, and this course will help recent graduates build the ability to do so with confidence.
By developing effective communication skills, participants will be able to improve case acceptance and increase productivity.
WORKSHOP
Photography, scanning and digital smile design for aesthetics
Friday 9 May 2025
Dental record keeping is an important component of dental practice, and incorporating modern technologies such as photography and digital scanning will add value to a patient’s records.
Additionally, keeping photo records helps us communicate dental problems, improve case acceptance, and allows for the delivery of minimally invasive aesthetic and comprehensive dentistry.
This course is a fantastic way to modernise your record taking, develop workflows that allow you to capture and communicate cases to patients, and maximise the consistency of care you provide for all patients.
WEBINAR
Cyber attack - Are you ready? Practical advice to protect your practice from cyber threats
Thursday 19 June 2025
Cyber attacks are an ever-growing challenge across all parts of society and the dental industry is not immune to this threat.
Patients entrust us with personal and sensitive information, so it is crucial that we safeguard this data and actively take steps to ensure we are applying the latest methods in addressing cyber threats that could compromise our systems.
This free online webinar offers practical advice for protecting your practice from cyber threats, guidance in securing your practice’s network from external attacks, and strategies for increasing employee awareness of cybersecurity and cyber threats.
Some of my favourites
My personal favourite CPD event is the ever-popular Basic botulinum toxin and dermal fillers course run by Dr Mahmoud Bakr and Dr Mohammed Meer. This two-day intensive course provides a thorough overview of the financial and legal implications of using botulinum toxin for a dental professional, the anatomical structures around the head and neck, and a hands-on component utilising manikin heads. Regardless of whether you plan on providing the treatment yourself or not, the course gives you an understanding of the mechanism of action of the toxin, as well as its effect on the muscles and relevance in treatment of dentofacial conditions.
No matter which courses you choose, it’s important to think ahead and ensure that you don’t leave it too late in the year. There’s a wealth of knowledge to be gained from the CPD courses that the ADAVB is running, and whether you are a new graduate or a seasoned practitioner, it is always useful to add a new layer to your skills and knowledge.
