Increasing access to interpreting services in northern Victoria
Dentists practicing in the Murray Public Health Network (PHN) region (which spans right across the north of the state from the western boarder to the east coast, and well into the midlands) can now access free interpreter services to ensure patients from non-English backgrounds receive information in a language they understand.
The region is home to more than 55,000 individuals who speak a language other than English at home, equating to almost 8% of the local population.
To enhance healthcare access for our culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) community, the Murray PHN is providing the Interpreting for Allied Health and Primary Care Pilot Program for the next 12 months (until 30 June 2026).
Registered practitioners can access the following interpreting services at no cost to them:
- Immediate and pre-booked telephone interpreting
- Automated telephone interpreting
- On-site interpreting
- Video remote interpreting.
